Examination System

MES College of Arts and Science, Chathamangalam, follows the Choice Based Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) as per the guidelines of the University of Calicut. The college has adopted Outcome-Based Education (OBE) to ensure that learning objectives and graduate attributes are effectively achieved through course delivery and continuous evaluation.

Courses are designed to support:

  • Skill and research-oriented learning pathways
  • Holistic student development
  • Environmental and social awareness
Assessment and Evaluation

Evaluation of students is carried out through Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) and End Semester Examination (ESE).

  • The CIA component may include class tests, assignments, seminars, model exams, and attendance.
  • The ESE is conducted at the end of each semester as per University guidelines.
  • A minimum percentage is required to pass both components individually (UG: 35% in ESE, PG: 40%).
  • Components like projects, internships, open courses, and audit courses carry additional credits and are evaluated accordingly.
Attendance Policy

For UG Students:

  • Minimum 75% attendance is required in each semester to appear for examinations.
  • Condonation of up to 10% may be granted upon valid request and payment of a fee.
  • Participation in college-approved activities may be considered for attendance benefit.
  • Students falling below 50% attendance must seek readmission as per University regulations.

For PG Students:

  • 75% attendance is mandatory for theory and practical classes.
  • Condonation of shortage may be permitted based on health issues or participation in recognized activities, subject to University approval.
Examinations & Hall Tickets
  • Examination dates are published on the college website and notice boards.
  • Students must pay exam fees online before the due date.
  • Hall tickets will be available for download one week prior to exams through the student portal.
  • ID card and signed hall ticket are mandatory for entering the examination hall.
Examination Rules
  • Students must report to the examination hall 15 minutes prior to the start.
  • Entry is not permitted after 30 minutes from the start of the exam.
  • Carrying unauthorized material or devices is strictly prohibited.
  • Strict disciplinary action will be taken in cases of malpractice, including cancellation of papers and penalties.
Result Publication & Revaluation
  • Results are published on the college website after approval by the relevant board.

  • Students can apply for:

    • Revaluation

    • Photocopy of answer scripts

    • Improvement exams (allowed in the immediate next semester)

  • A maximum of two papers can be improved per semester.

Grace Marks
  • Grace marks are available for students who participate in university-recognized co-curricular activities.
  • Proper documentation must be submitted within the deadline as notified by the Controller of Examinations.
Program Completion Time Frame
  • UG Programmes must be completed within 6 years from the date of admission.
  • PG Programmes must be completed within 4 years.
  • Students exceeding this limit must re-register as per current academic regulations.
Student Support Services

The college provides the following additional services on request:

  • Issue of Course Completion Certificates
  • Issue of Transcript and Grade Card
  • Certification for Additional Credits Earned
